Bus driver in 125mph police chase
Perth Sheriff Court
The court was shown a video of the high-speed chase
A bus driver who was chased by the police as he rode a motorbike at 125mph has been fined and banned from the roads for a year.

Steven Bell, 33, was convicted of driving dangerously on the M90 after a trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

The Lothian Buses driver, from Dunfermline, had been testing out a new high-powered motorcycle on his day off when he was spotted by traffic police.

He was chased for four miles by the officers before he pulled over.

The trial heard that the police car, which had its blue lights and siren activated, hit nearly 130mph as it tried to catch up with Bell.

He overtook more than 20 vehicles on his 750cc Kawasaki ZK7R as he drove south between junctions five and three on the M90.

He was oblivious to the police car behind him as he rode through Tayside and Fife.

'Careful and competent'

Bell eventually spotted the police vehicle and pulled over, later admitting: "I had no idea what speed I was doing."

The five-minute police pursuit, which finally ended on the outskirts of Dunfermline, was filmed by the police and shown to the court.

Bell had denied driving dangerously, but was found guilty and banned from the road for a year. He was also fined £200 and ordered to re-sit the extended driving test.

The court was told Bell would lose his job because of the incident.

He had claimed: "I was extremely accommodating to all the other vehicles on the road. I would class myself as a careful and competent driver."
