Drivers are being warned of what could happen if they are caught

Police in Tayside have launched this year's annual crackdown on festive drink-drivers.

The force is warning of the consequences of being caught behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Last year, Tayside Police caught 88 drivers as a result of its campaign over Christmas and New Year.

The blitz is part of a national campaign involving police around Scotland which launched on Wednesday.

Chf Insp Sandy Bowman, head of road policing in Tayside, said: "People who drink or take drugs and drive pose an unacceptable threat to us all.

"There is simply too much to lose for them, those who know them and anyone who comes into contact with them through their selfish actions."

The campaign warns drivers of what would happen to them if they are caught including the impact on their work and families.
