Study to look into new Tay bridge
An investigation into the construction of a third road bridge over the River Tay is to be carried out.

The 100,000 feasibility study will look into the possibility of a new crossing north of Perth.

The Scottish Executive has allocated the cash to the Tayside and Central Scotland Transport Partnership.

Local SNP MSP John Swinney welcomed the prospect of a new bridge, but the Green Party said the funding should be used for other priority transport projects.

The study has been triggered by local congestion problems, leading to traffic build-ups on the Queen's and Perth Bridges.

It will look into a crossing north of Inveralmond, linking to Scone.
