Hospital wedding bells for couple
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
The couple said they planned to marry at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary
A biker who was seriously injured in a road accident is to marry his fiancée in a ceremony at his hospital bed.

Instead of a traditional church service, Leigh Walker will make his wedding vows to Felicity Mayman at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Mr Walker, 49, from Montrose, Angus, was taken to hospital two weeks ago after his Kawasaki motorbike hit a Mercedes on the A90.

Ms Mayman made the 550-mile trip from her North Somerset home to see him.

Doctors said they were unsure if Mr Walker will be able to walk again.

He suffered a fractured pelvis, dislocated knee, fractured shin bone and bruising to his heart and lungs in the crash and he has also contracted MRSA.

Where we are getting married does not matter at all - it is the fact we are making the commitment to each other

But he told his fiancée that he wanted to set a date for their wedding after she travelled from Clevedon to Aberdeen by taxi to be at his bedside.

Ms Mayman, who works as a researcher with a government department, said she was unable to drive to Aberdeen and it was too late to catch a plane.

She said: "It cost me £500, but what could I do? I knew I had to get here."

The couple, who met on a biker internet site in January, got engaged at Easter and plan to become husband and wife in a ceremony on 16 October conducted by hospital chaplain James Falconer.

Ms Mayman, 42, said: "Where we are getting married does not matter at all - it is the fact we are making the commitment to each other.

"He told me that he did not want to lose me and asked if I wanted to get married now."

Mr Walker has undergone surgery and is expected to be transferred to the spinal injuries unit at Glasgow's Southern General hospital after his wedding.
