Meningitis victim 'helped others'
Perth Royal Infirmary
Jamie was taken to Perth Royal Infirmary on Friday night
A teenage student who died from meningitis managed to save at least six lives after his organs were donated, according to his family.

Jamie Ligertwood, from Perthshire, first complained of a sore throat late last week before dying on Sunday after being taken into hospital

The 18-year-old's family said they were extremely proud of him.

A "celebration" of Jamie's life will be held on Friday at the town hall in his home town of Pitlochry.

His parents have asked those wishing to attend to wear casual clothes.

'Devastating time'

Jamie's grandfather Bill said of the Stirling University student: "He was an organ donor and his parents went along with that and the result was that at least six people had organ transplants and are doing very well.

"That has been something to comfort us as a family at what is a desperately devastating time."

Jamie has been survived by parents Craig and Karen and younger siblings Scott, 16, and Aisha, 10.

Members of his family have been given antibiotics as a precaution while other people he was in close contact with have been traced, an NHS Tayside spokesman said.
