'First' websites for sign users
Website
The website contents are interpreted using sign language
Two new websites thought to be the first in Scotland extensively for sign-language users have been launched.

The contents of the sites, spearheaded by two Tayside-based interpreters, have been replicated on the page through British sign language by using video.

They have been working to raise awareness of improving web access.

The project aims to give profoundly deaf people using sign language as a first or preferred language better access to the internet.

'Passionate' project

The idea has been incorporated into the homepages of deaf interpreters Morag Doig and Jennifer Ramsay.

Ms Doig said: "As interpreting professionals, we are extremely passionate about the need for deaf people to have full access to all kinds of information and services.

"We hope that the websites will prove useful to interested members of the public and the deaf community."

The project was taken forward by web developer Richard MacQueen, who is deaf.
