New anti-bullying move launched

Issues around bullying were discussed with parents and pupils

Incidents of school bullying should be logged and recorded in a report, under a new strategy launched in Falkirk.

The guidelines, aimed at clamping down on the problem, have been shaped by parents and pupils.

The procedures, backed by Falkirk Council's education committee, will go to all the area's schools.

Education convener Tom Coleman said: "Bullying is a universal problem. Pupils, parents and the education authority all have a role to play."

The new policy also encourages pupils to have respect for each other and aims to ensure that anti-bullying remains a high profile issue in schools.

Mr Coleman added: "What we have put in place will go some way to ensuring children and young people are not intimidated and are free to learn and enjoy their education without fear of a small, mindless minority."
