Pupils' pioneering music project
A unique initiative aimed at helping disabled children to make music has been launched at a school in Dundee.

Kingspark special needs school is using Optimusic technology, which uses light beams to activate sounds, lights and even images.

It aims to give youngsters who may not be able to use traditional instruments an experience of music making.

The project, funded by Dundee City Council's Youth Music Initiative, also provides training for school staff.

Council education convener Kevin Keenan said: "The dedication of the school to the expressive arts is quite incredible.

"You only have to witness the enjoyment of the pupils participating in these programmes to see the benefits to confidence, enthusiasm for music and the arts as a powerful tool for learning."
