Voting packs for health board election distributed

Ballot papers for one of Scotland's first health board elections are being distributed across Dumfries and Galloway.

A list of 70 candidates standing for 10 non-executive member posts has now been published.

Dumfries and Galloway NHS is one of the two health boards holding elections, as part of a £2.86m pilot scheme.

Postal voting packs will be sent to households by Thursday 13 May and have to be returned by Thursday 10 June.

Elected health boards were promised by the SNP following a series of unpopular hospital closures.

In the past, health boards have had elected councillors but under the new plan each board would have a majority of elected members.
