Man faces shooting threat trial

A man is to stand trial in the Scottish Borders on a charge of threatening to shoot three community councillors.

Nikolaus Wirsten, 56, of Leslie Place, Selkirk, denied making the threats to two council employees last month.

He is accused of placing two contact centre workers in a state of alarm by saying he intended to buy a gun and shoot the councillors and then himself.

Mr Wirsten has been scheduled to face trial at Selkirk Sheriff Court later this month.
