Boat rescue incident investigated

Coastguard
An investigation will be launched into the rescue incident

An investigation is expected to be launched after a fishing boat ran aground off the south of Scotland coast at the weekend.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning near Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway.

Lifeboats and a rescue helicopter were scrambled to assist the five crew on board The Olive Branch.

However, they managed to make it to shore in their own lifeboat and the rescue operation was stood down.

The crew was later able to refloat the fishing boat.

However, the Marine Accident Investigation Branch is now expected to examine why the boat ran aground in the first place.
