Lorry toppling accidents probed

A police road survey is being carried out to check safety at a spot in south west Scotland where two lorries have toppled over in recent weeks.

Officers are working with roads agency Amey to look for any problems on the carriageway of the A76 near Kirkconnel.

Hauliers have also been contacted to check the loads involved were correctly attached to the vehicles concerned.

A police spokesman stressed that the general trend in accident numbers on the route appeared to be downward.

He said targeted patrol strategies had played a part in reducing the number of crashes.
