Thousands of homes were without drinking water due to the burst

About 4,500 properties in the Scottish Borders were left without drinking water after a mains pipe burst.

Scottish Water has now completed works to repair the damage at the Dunslaw Service Reservoir at Duns.

Supplies were first restored to Greenlaw and Coldstream but Swinton, Hutton, Paxton, Whitsome, Chirnside, Foulden and Duns remained cut off.

A Scottish Water spokesman said supplies should be restored to all areas by early evening on Monday.

About 4,900 properties were originally affected when the mains burst early on Monday morning.

Scottish Water apologised for any inconvenience and asked customers to preserve water if they could.

Repair work was completed on the mains by early afternoon on Monday with supplies expected to return after that.
