Man killed in 70ft plunge named

Police have identified the victim of a fatal accident on a minor road in Dumfries and Galloway.

John Allan Reid, 54, of Glendarg Farm, Eskdalemuir, was killed in the crash at about 2035 on Friday on the Enzieholm to Eskdalemuir Smithy road.

He was driving a Volvo S80 car which left the road and went down a 70ft (21m) embankment.

His wife, who was a passenger in the car, suffered cuts and bruises and was treated in the Cumberland Infirmary.

A full police crash investigation was carried out and a report is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.
