Man traced after serious assault

A man has been arrested after a serious assault on a 64-year-old man in the Scottish Borders.

It follows an incident at about 2240 BST on Thursday on the A698 Denholm to Cleekimin road close to the junction leading to Bedrule.

A statement from Lothian and Borders Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man from Hawick had been arrested.

It added that the man was expected to appear from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
