Swine flu hits final health board

NHS Dumfries and Galloway previously had no confirmed cases

The last remaining health board in mainland Scotland which had been free of swine flu has confirmed four cases.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway had previously been clear of patients contracting the H1N1 virus.

However, it has now confirmed four cases - all of which are understood to be travel-related and none requiring hospital treatment.

The total number of cases across Scotland currently stands at more than 1,300.

The news of the incidents in Dumfries and Galloway comes after health experts in the neighbouring Scottish Borders said an outbreak there had been "successfully contained".

Four confirmed cases in the region centred on a factory in Jedburgh with a further two people contracting the H1N1 virus in unrelated incidents.

NHS Borders said all six patients had only mild symptoms and were recovering well.
