Queen makes historic castle visit

Eyemouth Maritime Museum
The Queen visited the Maritime Museum in Eyemouth during a visit to the Borders

The Queen has become the first reigning monarch to visit a Borders castle dating back to the 13th Century.

She took in Thirlestane Castle near Lauder as part of a tour of two Berwickshire towns.

The Queen and Prince Philip were in Eyemouth to visit the town's Maritime Museum and Fisherman's Mission.

They then moved on to Lauder where they visited the historic castle and attended a reception to meet members of the local community.

The Queen has visited a number of sites across Scotland this week.

She was at Holyrood on Wednesday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.

On Monday she visited the Highlands at Culloden Battlefield and the Glendoe hydro power scheme.
