The Eden Festival is a spin off from the nearby Wickerman event

A music festival being held in a south of Scotland forest has pledged to calculate its carbon emissions and compensate by planting trees. The first Eden Festival is scheduled to take place in meadows at Ae Forest in Dumfries and Galloway in September. Among the headline acts booked for the "ecologically sound" event are The Levellers and Finley Quaye. Emissions will be calculated by the Crichton Carbon Centre and offset by tree planting across Galloway. The festival is described as a "celebration of music, dance, culture and community built on an ecologically sound and carbon friendly set of principles." It runs for three days starting on 4 September. Spokesman Adam Curtis said: "The festival site is stunning and it has been used for events in the past so it has everything we need to put on a great festival. "Power is coming from a mixture of renewables. "We want everyone to have a good time, remember what festivals used to be like and also be able to feel they're helping the planet by going to a green, sustainable event." The festival is a spin-off from the nearby Wickerman Festival which hosted an Eden Zone at past events.
