Glass panel collapse shuts school

About 600 pupils have been sent home from a school in south west Scotland after a glass panel fell in a corridor area of the building.

S1 to S3 pupils at Stranraer Academy will be off until Monday after the incident which took place overnight.

A spokeswoman for Dumfries and Galloway Council said the authority's safety team was studying the cause.

The closure decision does not affect any students who are currently sitting exams at the school.
