Jedburgh's cottage hospital closed in a health service shake-up

Plans have been lodged to redevelop a former hospital in southern Scotland while another has been put up for sale.

Proposals have been submitted to demolish the old Garrick Hospital in Stranraer and build a nursing home.

Meanwhile, the former cottage hospital in Jedburgh has been put on the market for offers over £225,000.

The Garrick site was replaced by a new hospital in 2006, the same year the Scottish Borders building was closed during a shake-up of health services.

Northern Irish company RJM Developments (Scotland) Ltd has submitted its plans for the Stranraer building.

It wants to demolish the existing building and replace it with a two-storey, 50-bedroom nursing home.

The Jedburgh cottage hospital was the subject of a lengthy local campaign to keep it open.

However, it is now being marketed by property consultants DTZ on behalf of NHS Borders.

It said the site would be well suited to conversion into residential, care home, guest house or hotel accommodation.
