Cyclist killed in road accident

Borders General Hospital
Mr Fleming died in the Borders General Hospital after the accident

A cyclist has been killed after a collision between his bike and a car in the Scottish Borders.

Murray Fleming, 25, an IT worker from Greenlaw, died as a result of the incident on the A698 between Hawick and Denholm at about 1840 GMT on Sunday.

Mr Fleming's bicycle was in collision with a Volkswagen Passat as they both headed east.

The cyclist was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment but died as a result of his injuries.

Police have appealed for information from anyone who was on the road at that time and who might have seen two cyclists.

They are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle which was travelling towards Hawick at the time.

They say the driver, although unaware of the collision, may be able to help with their inquiry.
