Rain causes fresh road disruption

River Nith
The River Nith overflowed at Dumfries on Friday

Persistent overnight rain has led to more road closures in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

Among the routes affected were the A701 Dumfries to Moffat road, north of Parkgate, and the A713 at Parton Mill.

Several other roads in the region were either closed in places, or badly affected by standing water.

The Met Office had issued a severe weather warning of heavy rain for much of southern and western Scotland on Friday night.

The area had initially been hit by heavy flooding overnight between Thursday and Friday, with a small number of houses flooded near Prestwick and at Twynholm, near Kirkcudbright.

Ayrshire was also hit by the deluge, with shops, restaurants and a cinema evacuated in Kilmarnock on Friday morning.
