Woman 'critical' after road crash

A 21-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The accident, which involved a car and a van, happened on the B7020 road between Lochmaben and Dalton at about 1550 BST on Saturday.

The woman, from the Lochmaben area, was taken to Dumfries Infirmary with life-threatening injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident which led to the road being closed for a number of hours.

The woman was driving a silver Citroen Saxo when it was involved in the collision with a white Vauxhall van.

She was taken to Dumfries Infirmary by ambulance where her condition has been described as critical.

The driver of the van was also taken to hospital but did not require any medical assistance.
