Hide gives new view of wildlife

A new wildlife viewing hide at a loch famous for its wintering wildfowl has been officially opened.

The £4,000 facility has been set up at Carlingwark Loch at Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway.

The loch is designated as a site of special scientific interest and is home to a wide variety of species.

Environment Minister Mike Russell said he hoped it would increase "educational and recreational" opportunities for visitors and locals alike.
