Dog dies after 'pitbull' attack

Police are trying to trace the owner of two "pitbull type" dogs after a Jack Russell was attacked and killed.

The incident happened at Goldie Park in Dumfries at about 0955 BST on Thursday.

The owner of the two dogs was seen entering the park from the Glasgow Road and after the attack left the scene by the same route.

He is described as aged between 30 and 40 with short grey hair and a stocky build. He was wearing a light blue shirt and combat trousers.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary confirmed that the Jack Russell died as a result of the injuries suffered in the attack.

One of the pitbull dogs is described as tan with a white neck and the other is black and white.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
