The body of a young Scottish woman who died while on holiday in Egypt has been flown home.

The cause of death of Nicky Millar, 37, from Galashiels, has been given as deep vein thrombosis brought on by pneumonia.

Her family said her grandfather had been killed by the same condition at almost exactly the same age.

Ms Millar's mother described her as a "wee ray of sunshine" who "never saw anything bad in anybody".

The young woman, who worked as a financial controller with Baxter Johnston Oils in Dalkeith, died in the resort of Sharm el Sheikh on 29 July.

She was on holiday with long-term boyfriend George Black, also from Galashiels.

Her body was flown home to Scotland on Monday but the authorities have still to verify the verdict of Egyptian officials so a funeral can take place.

Her parents, Allan and Pat Millar, from Selkirk, said their daughter had suffered a bout of pneumonia about a month before heading off on holiday.

However, she had been given the all clear to travel.

Her mother said: "We got a phone call at about 6am from George and it was devastating.

"She was our wee ray of sunshine and never saw anything bad in anybody.

"We both had this virus about three or four months ago and although she insisted she felt fine and had been given the all-clear by her doctor I was still worried about her going."

Heart problems

Mrs Millar added that there was a family history of similar health problems.

"Her grandfather died aged 38 of the same thing and her father has had heart problems so it appears to be hereditary," she said.

Mr Millar said he still could not believe what had happened.

"We have been overwhelmed by the kind messages we have received about Nicky from some people we don't even know," he said.

"They obviously thought a lot of her."

Ms Millar grew up in Letham, Angus, and attended agricultural college before spending several years serving in the RAF as a credit controller.

She had lived with Mr Black in Galashiels for the past six years.
