Equine hero crosses finish line

Turbo Linn
Turbo Linn is to retire after winning her first eight races in a row

A horse racing hero of south west Scotland is set to retire.

Turbo Linn, owned and bred in Lockerbie by Jimmy Nelson, enjoyed a fairytale start in the sport winning her first eight races in a row.

Her rise saw her capture the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks at Newmarket last year and win total prize money of £86,000.

She finished fifth at Haydock at the weekend and trainer Alan Swinbank confirmed the five-year-old would now go to Mr Nelson's stud in Lockerbie.

"We're going to retire her," he said.

"She's done her job, she's nothing else to prove."
