Riding admitted carrying out the glass attack last year

One of Scotland's top female jockeys has been given 200 hours of community service, after she admitted severely injuring a soldier.

Jenny Riding, 24, pleaded guilty to striking a man with a glass three times in the face outside a pub in Crawford Street, Kelso, on 7 July last year.

Her victim, a soldier, needed six stitches in a 3cm wound behind his left ear as well as bruising to his chin.

Riding was second in the 2007 National Hunt amateur ladies championship.

She produced references from trainers Peter Monteith and Dick Allan and was said to be keen to get her life back on track and resume her promising career in the saddle.
