Man in court over badger's death

A 21-year-old man has appeared in court charged with chasing a badger in his car and killing it.

Peter Allison from Borgue, near Kirkcudbright, allegedly committed the offence on the B727 Dalbeattie to Gatehouse of Fleet road on 28 January.

At Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court Mr Allison was charged with wilfully killing or injuring the badger by driving his car at it on two occasions.

He pled not guilty to the charge and a trial has been arranged for September.

The charge said that on the second occasion Mr Allison drove his vehicle at the animal, striking and killing it, about a mile west of the C52 Brighouse road.

The charge was brought under the Protection of Badgers Act of 1992.
