A major European dental floss maker is seeking up to 60 redundancies at its plant in the Scottish Borders.

Peri-dent, which supplies oral care products in more than 30 countries, currently employs 220 staff at its factory in Tweedbank.

The move follows a review of the 22-year-old company's operations.

A spokesman for the firm said it was currently consulting with the Unite union and could make no further comment on the plans.

Tony Trench, the union's regional organiser, described the announcement as "another major jobs hit for the Borders".
