Football fraud sentence deferred

James Bark
Sentence was deferred on the former Stranraer chairman

Sentence has been deferred on a former football chairman who admitted trying to defraud his club of £1,000.

James Bark, 59, committed the offence in Stranraer Football Club's anniversary draw in 2006.

Not guilty pleas to five other charges of embezzlement had previously been accepted by the Crown at Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court.

Sentence was deferred on Bark, of Greenfield Row, Stranraer, to allow his new solicitor to prepare his defence.

Bark previously admitted forming a fraudulent scheme to try to obtain money from the draw held in 2006.

Sheriff Kenneth Hogg said it was the kind of conduct which compromised the integrity of the club itself.

Sentencing will now take place on 1 May.
