Five contest vacant council seat

The council ward by-election will take place on 1 May

Five candidates will contest a council ward by-election in Dumfries and Galloway next month.

A seat representing the Abbey ward was left vacant after Conservative Bruce Hodgson announced his resignation.

Labour's Tom McAughtrie, Tory Mike Thomson, Lib Dem Keith Mycock, John McNaught of the SNP and Independent Graham McLeod will seek election.

The by-election for the ward - which stretches from Dumfries to Dalbeattie - will be held on 1 May.
