A gamekeeper convicted of bird poisoning has won a legal bid for the return of his shotgun licence.

Maurice Gibson, 63, of Kelso, launched the action after he was stripped of the certificate due to his wildlife crime.

The licence was confiscated after he was convicted in 2006 for lacing an animal carcass with carbofuran which subsequently killed a wild buzzard.

Mr Gibson argued he needed the licence for vermin control at Frogden Farm near Kelso. Police will appeal the decision.

The verdict was delivered at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
