Leisure centre handover concern
Works starting
Work started on the DG One leisure complex in August 2006
A 17.2m leisure development in Dumfries could miss its target date for handover to council control.

The DG One project has already slipped about six months behind its original building schedule.

However, the keys for the complex had been expected to be handed to the local authority on Friday.

It now appears that "snagging issues" - including repairs to the games hall floor required after a sprinkler system test - will force another delay.

It had been intended to open the DG One development in autumn 2007, but that date has been shifted several times.

The latest opening target is for the end of March.

A meeting will now be held to hear what can be done to achieve this schedule.

Leisure complex sub committee chairman David McKie said he was "deeply concerned" by the situation.

He said the authority would do everything in its power to ensure contractors Kier Northern did not miss the Friday deadline.
