Theatre light funds avert closure

New lighting will be put in at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries
A closure threat at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries has been lifted thanks to a an emergency funding package.

The owners of Scotland's oldest working theatre - the Guild of Players - have been awarded 28,500 by Dumfries and Galloway Council towards new lighting.

It will allow the replacement of old lights which were at risk of breaching health and safety regulations.

The local authority found the funds out of a 488,000 budget earmarked for theatre development in the town.
