Dumfries fire
Mr McBurnie died as a result of the garage blast
A man who suffered serious injuries following an explosion on a Dumfries industrial estate has died.

James McBurnie, 53, of the town's Kirkland Road, was in a garage on the Catherinefield Industrial Estate when the blast wrecked the building.

More than 40 firefighters were called to the blaze which broke out at about 1730 BST on Saturday.

Mr McBurnie was transferred to St John's Hospital in Livingston for treatment but died from his injuries.

A 200m exclusion zone was set up around the area when the fire broke out due to the risk of further explosions.

Firefighters brought in an aerial ladder to help in the fight to bring the blaze under control.

The cost of repairing the damage is expected to run into hundreds of thousands of pounds.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the incident.
