Football club seeks disco signing
Palmerston Park
Harris has been approached to write a song for Queen of the South
A Scottish first division side has approached a chart-topping artist to pen a new club anthem.

Queen of the South have asked music producer Calvin Harris to put together a piece to play when they step out onto their Palmerston Park pitch.

The Dumfries side is the home team of the writer of "Acceptable In The 80s".

Mr Harris confirmed he had been asked and joked in a recent interview that he was working on a "big, happy, hardcore global piece of work" for the club.

His latest single - "Merrymaking at My Place" - entered the UK dance charts this week at number three.

We need to try and get something more up tempo

QoS PA announcer

It was Queen of the South half-time PA announcer, Alex Wilson, who made the approach to the man who has worked with artists including Kylie Minogue.

"It was basically a challenge to him," he explained.

"It was in the papers that he was a Queen of the South supporter.

"So when I met him in the pub I asked him if he would do me a bit of music - I thought I would just chance it and see."

Mr Wilson admitted he was not sure he would hear any more about it but the Dumfries artist then mentioned the team during a recent television interview.

He confirmed he had been approached to write some music for his local side.

'Clap along'

The club already has a song which it plays before games and Mr Wilson mixes it up with two other pieces both entitled Queen of the South.

"We need to try and get something more up tempo," he said.

"You want to get the crowd to clap along."

The musician confirmed he had been approached by the south west Scotland side to write something.

However, he said he had been joking about the "happy hardcore" club piece.

The team currently lies in a mid-table position in the Scottish First Division.
