Residents in parts of Langholm remain without safe drinking water
About 600 homes in a Dumfriesshire town remain without safe drinking water a week after cryptosporidium was found in their water supplies.

An incident management team has told residents in Langholm's Old Town the situation is likely to continue until at least early next week.

In the meantime they have been advised to boil water being used for drinking or food preparation.

Bottled water has also been provided for homes without a safe supply.

Situation reviewed

The cryptosporidium parasite - which can cause vomiting and diarrhoea - was found in the town on 20 July.

Supplies will be monitored in the days ahead, with the situation reviewed early next week.

"The incident management team is continuing to monitor the situation and review the need to continue this advice," said Dr David Breen of NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

"I am satisfied that Scottish Water is doing all in its power to restore the supply to normality, and in the meantime is continuing to provide a robust bottled water supply."
