Town retains huge wedding appeal
More than 4,000 weddings took place at Gretna Green last year according to the latest Registrar General figures.

It represented almost 15% of the total number of ceremonies staged in Scotland in 2006.

A total of 4,434 weddings were registered in the Dumfries and Galloway town over the 12-month period - down from the record of 5,555 in 2004.

A total of 86% of ceremonies held in Gretna last year did not involve a Scottish resident.
