Police have named a father-of-two who died in a road accident on the A76 Dumfries to Kilmarnock road.
It is believed a lorry overturned on top of a van at Enterkinfoot between Thornhill and Sanquhar.
The van's driver, Christopher I'Anson, 35, from Sanquhar, was killed in the accident, which took place at about 0730 BST.
Three other people were taken to Dumfries Infirmary but their injuries were not thought to be serious.
A car was also involved in the incident.
An air ambulance was called to the scene but was not required.
Upgrade call
A police spokesman said the road remained closed at 2030 BST.
The incident has prompted renewed calls for an upgrade of the route.

Galloway and Upper Nithsdale Conservative MSP Alex Fergusson said the time had come for action.
"This tragic accident is the latest in what is becoming a sad litany of fatal accidents on the A76," he said.
"There is only so much that better signage can do and the recent improvements have clearly failed to stop this accident taking place."
He called upon the new Scottish government to deliver road improvements.
"I would like to think that they will take this incident very seriously and look to see what they can do to try to decrease the ever-increasing death toll on this road," he said.
