Loch warning over poisonous algae
Warning signs have been put at Gunknowe Loch at Tweedbank after an outbreak of potentially poisonous algae was found.

The warm and dry weather is being highlighted as the reason for prolific blooming of cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae.

The blooms produce toxins which can be harmful to human and animal health.

A spokesman for Scottish Borders Council said the signs had been erected as a precaution so that the public would avoid contact with the water.
