Top accordionist dies after show
Jean McConnachie
Mrs McConnachie died shortly after coming off stage
One of the Scotland's top accordionists has died suddenly - only minutes after performing on stage.

Jean McConnachie, from Dumfries, had been at a charity event at Locharbriggs Social Club on Thursday night.

She was taking part in the Night of Accordion Magic to raise money for a Dumfries hospice.

A doctor and nurse in the audience, as well as paramedics and firefighters, tried to revive her but Mrs McConnachie died before reaching hospital.

Her husband and fellow musician Jim was watching the show.

He said she had been pleased with her performance after a recent flu bug, but took ill shortly after coming off stage.

The event organiser and compere, John Caskie, said everything possible had been done to save her.

Mr Caskie said the show went on - as she would have wanted - and it was only later that they heard she had died.
