One-way traffic plan progresses
Hawick
Councillors have voted narrowly in favour of plans for a one-way traffic scheme for Hawick town centre.

Members of the Teviot and Liddesdale area committee backed the experimental system by four votes to three.

It would see only southbound traffic on the High Street, with northbound vehicles using Commercial Road.

Council roads officials had recommended rejection of the scheme, advising that a ban on heavy lorries could be achieved for a more modest investment.
