Footballer convicted after brawl
Kevin Kyle
The Coventry City striker was arrested last October
Former Scotland footballer Kevin Kyle has been convicted of two breaches of the peace after a brawl in Stranraer.

The 25-year-old Coventry City striker was arrested as he celebrated Scotland's Euro 2008 qualifying win over France last October.

He threw up to four punches, then swore at police officers as they approached to arrest him.

Kyle was found guilty after a trial at Stranraer Sheriff Court. The case was adjourned until 3 April for reports.

'Absolutely devastated'

The former Sunderland player had claimed the arrest in the early hours of 8 October was part of a revenge mission by a police officer over a bitter break-up between Kyle's cousin and the officer.

But Sheriff James Smith dismissed the plot as preposterous and convicted Kyle, who gained the last of his nine international caps in April 2004, of the charges.

Speaking outside the court, father-of-one Kyle said: "I am absolutely devastated about this.

"I am really upset - I don't know what to do about it."

The footballer had told the court he had not been fighting with anyone during the evening and also that he had not said anything to the police officers.

He admitted drinking at least six pints of alcohol during the night.
