Shed blaze kills 4,500 chickens
A fire at an agricultural shed in the Scottish Borders has destroyed the building killing 4,500 chickens.

The blaze in the 25m by 80m, single-storey shed at Sprouston, near Kelso, began on Friday evening.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue said the timber building had been well alight and all the birds perished.

Weedkiller and insecticide also caught alight. Locals were told to keep doors and windows closed, but there was said to be no risk to public health.

The fire service said that two fire engines and three specialist appliances were used to tackle the fire.
