The two institutions are set to merge later this year
The University of Paisley has underlined its commitment to a Dumfries campus after its merger with Bell College later this year.

The institution made its pledge to improve its current facilities during a meeting on the Crichton site.

It comes after Glasgow University announced that it was closing undergraduate admissions in Dumfries.

Paisley University's court said it was looking at "enhancing and developing" its presence in Dumfries and Galloway.

The promise came at a consultation meeting for stakeholders on the Crichton campus.

Valued operations

Concerns have been voiced about the wider future of the site in light of Glasgow's decision to close admissions.

However, the University of Paisley has underlined its commitment to the campus after its merger with Bell College on 1 August.

Prof Bob Beaty, chair of University of Paisley Court, said the meeting in Dumfries was designed to show how much it valued its operations in the town.

"This event highlights our continued commitment to the region and enhancing and developing the university's operations in Dumfries and Galloway," he said.
