Plea for patience on relief route
Galashiels relief road
There have been warnings of initial delays when the road opens
Drivers have been warned they may face initial delays when a new inner relief road is opened in Galashiels.

The route will be officially opened on 20 November - within two weeks of two superstores opening in the town.

Work on a railway underbridge has not been completed, however, meaning there will still be a temporary link between Melrose Road and Currie Road.

Scottish Borders Council has thanked the public for its patience during the relief roadworks.

Drivers have been asked to pay particular attention to the new road layout, which has changed significantly.

Galashiels Developments Programme Manager David Green warned that there could be initial delays, especially with supermarkets opening on 20 November and 4 December.

He has asked road users to consider travelling outside peak times, with car-sharing and using public transport to help reduce traffic flows.
