Healthy account for common riding
Hawick common riding's organising committee has revealed it has the healthiest bank balance in its history.

Four years ago the festival committee was on the brink of bankruptcy but its annual general meeting heard it is now in credit to the tune of £77,000.

Committee chairman Jim Hogg said the good weather and a popular Cornet had contributed to the healthy accounts.

The record breaking figures were achieved despite a number of one-off expenses during the year.
