The mother of a young Bristol woman killed in a car crash near Dumfries on Sunday has spoken of her family's loss.

Bethany Jane Secker, 20, was one of three victims of a seven-vehicle crash on the A75.

Her mother, Sarah Doyle, said her daughter was a "loving, caring girl" who would be "sadly missed" by her family and friends.

Dumfries teenagers Mark Johnston and Luke Shearman also died in the crash on a stretch of road known as The Glen.

Speaking on behalf of the family Ms Doyle said Bethany had just started work after completing her studies.

'Caring girl'

"Beth studied physiotherapy at Liverpool University, having left Churchill Community School, Churchill, near Bristol, with three grade A A-levels," she said.

"She graduated in July this year and, after a month travelling in eastern Europe, began her first job as a physiotherapist at Wythenshawe Hospital.

"Beth was a lovely, caring girl and had carried out various spells of voluntary work with people with learning difficulties.

"She will be very sadly missed by her family and many friends."

A total of 17 people have died on the roads of Dumfries and Galloway so far this year.
