Police identify A75 crash victims

The names of three young people killed in a crash on the A75 near Dumfries on Sunday have been released by police.

Luke Shearman, 16, and Mark Johnston, 17, both from Dumfries, were killed in the crash at about 1500 GMT.

Bethany Jane Secker, 20, from Bristol, also died in the crash which involved seven vehicles on a stretch of the road west of the town, known as The Glen.

Police said the road was finally reopened at 2000 GMT on Monday, 29 hours after the crash.

Witness appeal

Two people seriously hurt in the crash have been transferred to a hospital in Edinburgh for specialist treatment.

Dumfries and Galloway Police have asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.

The incident came days after the force launched a campaign to attempt to reduce the number of deaths on the region's roads.

A total of 13 people have been killed in road crashes in Dumfries and Galloway in the past seven months.
